Most people on earth must be wondering why Israel is hammering Lebanese people so brutally for kidnapping of two of its soldiers by Hezbollah. The answer is pretty simple to come by – Israel want to destroy Iran’s first line of defense through its military campaign in Lebanon - codenamed Miftza Shinui Kivun or Operation Change of Direction.
By neutralizing Hezbollah power Israel wants to pass on a clear signal that the next targets will be Iran and Syria.
Why Hezbollah Started the War Now
There were growing signals for sometime that America wants Israel to attack Iran nuclear installation after Iran refused to stop its Uranium enriching program.
Secondly the pressure on Iran is growing from international community especially European Union and sanctions were looming large.
The American fire power to contain Iran has been limited due to growing insurgency in Iraq and no exit routes seem possible in near future.
With this new front in against Israel through Hezbollah, Iran can make way for fulfilling its two ambitions – growing influence in Iraqi internal politics and taking the attention away from its nuclear program.
Involving both Israel and America in the region will also unsettle few of the American supporting countries in the region like Saudi Arabia and Jordan, which are ruled by autocrats against people wishes.
The strength of resistance of Hezbollah has shown that they were prepared for a full scale, long term guerilla war. With no possible solution in sight & slowing American economy; it seems that Hezbollah is ready to bleed American customers with increasing fuel prices in coming winters. |
